I’ve recently heard about a local family and their heartbreaking bad luck.
From Melissa Bergman: “My coworker Katie Palmer and her husband Scott have two beautiful boys. When their oldest was just 10 months old he was diagnosed with cancer. Eventually the cancer was placed in remission, but the treatment that was used to save his life– damaged his lungs.
For the next few years the Palmers fought for his life. He was eventually placed on the lung transplant list and received lungs just in the nick of time.
That was two years ago.
They continue to face huge medical expenses for their sons ongoing follow up and treatments but have begun to move on with their lives.
This past winter they (The Palmers) found out they were pregnant with a little girl who was due June1. Sadly, she was born silently into this world, stillborn, last Friday.
They named the little girl ‘Lola Faith’ and will be laying her to rest later in the week.
The family has asked everyone to wear pink on Thursday and Friday and use the hashtag #pink4lola. I would just love for the Palmers to look everywhere and see pink, those days.
Its not only a great way to show support but also to help raise awareness for infant loss. I just want to reach as many people as we possibly can. I know you have raised awareness for many other things in our community and just wondered if you would like to share their story.”
NOTE: Lola’s obituary is in today’s Toledo Blade.
Something beautiful is already taking place. Included in the message from Melissa Bergman was a link to a GoFundMe site. In the first 3 days, over $10,000 has been raised for this family.
Now, the simple part of the request. As a way to show your love and support for this family– On Friday, May 15th, please wear #Pink4Lola.
Let’s flood social media with pictures of NW Ohio in pink. A small gesture to remind an unlucky family, that we are thinking of them.
