I am amazed by the amount of anger, currently on Facebook.
Instead of looking at some real issues regarding a man who suffered a broken neck, nearly severed spine, while in police custody, poverty, lack of education– we look at the easiest, which is race.
I have no idea what is like being a person of color, because I was born white. For numerous reasons, I have zero fear of police, only great respect.
It’s incredible, how quickly people find stories of ignorance, to make their point.
My favorite of the morning; Ebony Monique Dickens, the African-American woman who posted on Facebook, about “killing all white cops”. She was rightfully arrested. Every family has a crazy relative– imagine what that person would say, being quoted about the Baltimore riots. If they are on FB, you’ve likely seen it. Then imagine a bunch of people using your crazy relative’s words as a way to support their own agenda.
This practice of using Google, to find stories to support your skewed thoughts, need to cease. The same way that looting and burning down a CVS does.
99% of Police are good. The 1% seem to be garnering the most headlines. Just like the residents of Baltimore.
Unless you walked in a mile of another person’s shoes, opinions about race should be kept to a minimum.
I have never been scared for my life, during a traffic stop. I have always done everything in my power, to make it as safe for the officers as possible.
There is a cultural difference of fear, in this moment. I cannot relate to the argument nor anger of those, protesting. That doesn’t mean I don’t understand, nor sympathetic.
Every person has the right to be tried and convicted by a jury of his peers. Once in the custody of police, they have to be cared for. It’s a human right.
Yes, Police need to do a better job of eliminating their 1%… but, I’ve never walked in those shoes, either.
Instead of sharing stories of ignorance, choose ones where it shows the 99%.
Let’s end the celebration of stupidity, and rejoice in moments of humanity.
Ignorance is not genetic trait, it’s something learned and passed on. There is no race that is more immune than another.
