Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Go to the OG Hip Hop BBQ Festival with Bone Thugs N Harmony, Naughty By Nature and Coolio

Written by: Jeremy Baumhower

For everyone who’s planning on attending the OG Hip Hop BBQ Festival this weekend, that was originally billed as having Bone Thugs N Harmony, Naughty By Nature and Coolio perform– Here are the very reasons why I would not be attending if I were you.

Reason 1) The Promoter: According to the event’s Facebook page a Tim Corser is the promoter– Tim Corser was the promoter of a Jackson County, Michigan annual concert called Rockapalooza which ended with him pleading Guilty to 2 Felony charges of Fraud because he bounced checks to the vendors, including the beer for amounts totaling more than $20,000.

Reason #2) The Acts: The Original billed headline acts when the tickets went on sale were Bone Thugs N Harmony, Naughty By Nature and Coolio– It seems that Bone Thugs N Harmony were never officially booked through their management and will be playing another concert in Colorado, so now it is only two members (Layzie Bones and Mo’ Thugs) will be performing. Naughty By Nature has also stated they will not be performing, leaving Coolio as the only confirmed act of the originally three billed headliners

Reason #3) Venue Size: Organizers have stated publicly that they were hoping the concert would draw close to 10,000 plus people. The contract posted for this event stated clearly the capacity was 5,000. Tim Corser, the promoter has repeatedly told numerous people including potential vendors to expect at least 10,000 people.

Reason #4) Tickets: The prices for this event are $20 in advance, $30 at the door and $100 for special VIP Tickets that included an opportunity to “meet the bands”: The promoter told a local artist who was scheduled to perform that he “was going to go to Columbus and Cleveland and giveaway 100,000 free tickets” to make sure there was a good crowd. This is a common thing to do, it’s called “papering the house”. It turns out that people claiming to be a part of the “organizing committee” has been spotted as far as Levis Commons handing out free tickets. I do not think 100,000 people will be there, but the rule is 1% will. So combine this with the venue’s capacity and overcrowding could be an issue.

Reason #5) Parking: There is a limited amount of parking at the venue itself and the concert promoters are using Perrysburg High School as the location to park your vehicles and are using buses to transport people back and forth. Concert goers will be approx.a mile from your car.

It’s a Powder Keg: If you combine that ten thousand plus potential people could be packed onto a property that holds 5,000, where concert goers will be a mile away from their cars, watching dozens of local hip hop acts, with some to most drinking alcohol, where some ticket buyers purchased tickets with a promised lineup that included Bone Thugs N Harmony, Naughty By Nature and Coolio would all be performing has the recipe for complete disaster.

    smh (sigh) stir stir stir

I personally agree that some media “hype” is just that, hype, “Blondie”. However, I’m unsure how this could possibly be misconstrued as stirring the pot. Mr. Baumhower has a responsibility to report honestly on things happening in and around Toledo…and, in my opinion, does that to the best of his abilities. Please, I ask of you, find a problem with any of his individual reasons and/or with his sum of the reasons added together. Are any of these lies? Are any of them not a basic reason that show the potential for there to be a problem? Does each reason, being honest and itself problematic, not add up to the possibility for anger and possible danger (to person(s) or property)?

Hmmm… I have tickets, either way Im still planning on going and going to make the best of it!

  4. Michelle says:

Thanks for the heads up. and to the comment above mine I don’t consider this to be stirring when it could prevent a major problem

  5. Reason #1 should not have any bearing on if someone attends this show or not – yes after many years of promoting shows etc. and Rockapalooza he had some issues with money and checks ONE TIME – so many people have checks bounce for so many different reasons not all are bounced intentionally!! You do not even know all the details of those charges and how they actually came about etc. Are you also going to tell people they should not attend because this rapper or that rapper was once charged with a felony assault or robbery and plead guilty.. I am betting there are some rappers performing there who have some more serious felony records than Tims!! And Reason #2 – As for two of the main acts not being there as advertised – things happen sometimes with communication and other things that result in the main acts not doing a show after all – shit happens – so are they offering refunds to those who want them due to this change in lineup ? or is there a disclaimer re; possible act changes? Your making it seem like they lied on purpose to mislead – and I highly doubt that is what happend. Reason #5 (Parking) thats a joke – just one more little negative twist to add to make your list longer in my opinion lol – parking is a issue for many events and venues – its the price we all pay sometimes when attending things – the parking issue has been addressed with use of another area for parking and buses – big deal if your a mile from your car .

  6. I believe Mr. Baumhower did the right thing to inform the public what to REALLY look for here!!! $20 for a ticket where you have to park your car ONE-MILE from venue and take a bus? Next…5,000 people MAY be TURNED AWAY from the venue due to RESTRICTIONS on the amount of people permitted!! Right there could ‘spell trouble’ for Perrysburg!!!! 5,000 angry, enraged people that paid $20 for a ticket and can’t get in…with some or more than half intoxicated or high…getting rowdy and belligerent, and turning their emotions toward Perrysburg, could get ugly fast!!! Better have CNN ready for that one! Is Mr. Baumhower “stirring the pot and instigating “hype” for telling the TRUTH about the REAL and FACTUAL line-up for the show? HELL NO!!! He is laying out the facts and more what you can expect Saturday!!! Hopefully the promoter gets a handle on what he is doing and provides the fans with a good show. But in MY OWN OPINION…I believe the Lucas County Recreation Center, or ALL that open area where the Toledo Sports Arena was…would have been much more appropriate venues with plenty of room to facilitate all of the fans and their vehicles. I applaud your article, Mr. Baumhower!!! It seems like when the truth is right in our faces…it makes some people nervous and fearful of the facts!!!~~~~~Tom “Grizzly” Momsen

Lets just be honest, they don’t want this concert to take place because of the crowd it will bring in. The concert is going to happen if you like it or not. As far as parking, yes you will have to park your vehicle and get there by bus but they have been doing this for at least the past 10 years and no one’s ever seemed to have a issue with it. The community also will have parking at a small fee and im sure people will tell you not to do that because you’re vehicle will be tampered with but also in at least the past ten years the community has done this and everyone whos parked there has left with their vehicles the same way they brought it there. Hope to see lots of people out there and I hope you all enjoy your time. The Heights is mostly family and has always welcomed people with open arms. See you all this weekend!

  8. blondie says:

Thank you Dazz you are spot on. I am unsure what his issue with the parking is, He obviously doesn’t go to many big events, cause most have parking with shuttles (ex- German American Festival, Crosby Arts Fair, Ann Arbor art fair, major concerts in any of the large cities) Every time I have read about this concert it was clearly stated that is was not all members of Bone Thugs & Harmony and not all members of Naughty By Nature. Holding this concert at a different venue would have defeated the purpose of this concert, -to run in conjunction with the Mexican American Festival and to raise money for the community center.

  9. […] This interview completely contradicted his early stance on refunds in an interview with The Blade’s Matt Thompson, who’s article was posted just an hour before Mr. Craig’s TV interview debuted.Since Mr. Craig so graciously changed his mind, or perhaps he spoke out of both sides of his mouth, I wanted to help this scenario by giving you a step-by-step instruction on how to procure your refund by Mr. Craig and the promoters of this event.  If you are in possession of a ticket that states the value is $20 and want a refund, use the following steps.. Here are my reasons why you shouldn’t go. […]

  10. Callie says:

I will be using my ticket to attend the show at main st featuring Raine Wilder. At least he values the chance to make a show away from false info.
