The Shorties are Back

I am pleased to announce The Shorties are back at the Tree City Film Festival on April 24th! This year the red carpet event and showing will take place at Northview’s Performing Arts Center.

The Shorties if a film festival that celebrates the art of young filmmakers and their craft. It is open for all school children from grades K through 12. Yes, this year we are allowing the High School students to enter and compete.

There will be celebrity judges, including one from Nickelodeon.

The Shorties is celebration for the artistically minded child who may never compete on a baseball diamond or a basketball court. Most children have or desire a gadget that has the ability to make a movie, so why don’t they?

The Sylvania Community Arts Commission is challenging those fortunate children to do something more than to take a ‘selfie’ or follow Justin Bieber on Twitter. The SCAC wants to inspire children to create art and experience all that goes with it.

The Tree City Film Festival is now accepting entries for the Shorties; all shorts must be under 5 minutes in length. For more details go to or you can message me any question you might have.

What a perfect activity for children to do over Spring Break. Of course moms and dads can help, consider this the Pinewood Derby of film.

NOTE: It’s been amazing for me to watch this little idea blossom into one of the Must-go-to-Events for families of NW Ohio. This year we evolved the concept and added Shorties U.

Shorties U was a 4-week mini-course for all young filmmakers which inspired 50+ children on how to make movies and to do something greater with their devices.

I am so proud of this event and the children who partake. Please do me a favor and SHARE this post with anyone who may be interested.

If you are one who loves all the feels, make sure you mark your calendar. I hope to see you all on Thursday April 24th!
